DONCASTER ST LEGER 1786

The 11th winner of the St Leger, held on Tuesday 26th September 1781 over the 2 miles of Town Moor, was Paragon, a bay colt by Paymaster out of Calash, owned by Lord Archibald Hamilton and trained and ridden by John Mangle at Ashgill, Middleham. A field of 8 runners contested the race, although there were 14 subscriptions of 25 guineas each, which was worth 350 Guineas. (Equivalent to £52,900 in 2017)
